Tyan Developing i975X Motherboard In a recent conversation with our friends at Tyan, the sources have revealed that their talented engineers have begun designing a new motherboard based upon Intel's 975X Chipset. Although Tyan hasn't yet released any official details on this system motherboard project, as the project is still in its infancy, we do expect it to be quite a feature-filled and solid motherboard. Keep in mind, following Intel's desktop Chipsets, the latest to have been successfully used by Tyan was the i915G (Grantsdale), while they had a product based upon the i925XE (Alderwood) but its life-span was short as Tyan was quick to phase out the solution due to poor acceptance in the US market. Months ago we heard information from Tyan in regards to an i955X motherboard, but with the i975X now becoming available the past project has likely closed internally. However, their recently released, Pentium D-compatible, Tomcat i7230A motherboard has been under high-demand according to Tyan. Back onto the i975X Chipset, we hope to be delivering some initial Linux results in the very near future and a thorough comparison against the Glenwood 955X. From an alternative source inside the motherboard industry, he feels the Intel 945/955 Chipsets are utterly depressing and is continuing to stick with the i875P Canterwood-based motherboard in his personal and work systems until the availability of the i975X. On the topic of AMD motherboards, Tyan's Tomcat K8E-SLI S2866 is an exceptional replacement to the nForce4 Ultra K8E S2865, with its NVIDIA SLI support as well as faster performance thanks to the nForce Professional 2200 Chipset. If you missed our review of the Tyan K8E-SLI, it can be found here. Posted by Michael Larabel on January, 03 2006 |
