Second Life - Linux Alpha The well respected Icculus a.k.a Ryan C Gordon, has announced the public availability of an Alpha release for a Second Life Linux port. Second Life has been available for Macintosh OS X and Microsoft Windows for some while, and is a 3D world game similar to The Sims. The Second Life game also involves a currency called the Linden, which can be converted into real US dollars. Keep in mind, this is only free access to the Alpha release, which is potentially home to a great deal of errors. Although this is probably not an exciting thriller for most, hopefully it will pass some time with penguins until the Linux release of America's Army v2.60. Speaking of AA:SF v2.6, which was released for Microsoft Windows this past week, we hope the release will occur in the near future for Mac OS X and Linux. Ryan hasn't updated his finger with any remarks yet, but we hope it won't turn into the whole debacle that happened with version 2.4 when there was a large UT2004 engine change to its code-base, which completely eliminated the Linux/Mac version. Good Luck Ryan! We will be sure to pass along any America's Army Linux information as its discovered. Back onto the Alpha of Second Life, below are two screen-shots of the game running on a Fedora Core 4 box. More information on this release is here.
